The lust for power engenders a burning ambition to rule as a king. This despicable, egotistical, cruel ambition consumes good morals, ethics and life itself. Although one who would rule must have a deranged level of immorality and egotism, he must be considered an evil amature when compared with others whose ego and lawlessness knows no bounds.
Centuries ago, in Israel, leaders of the twelve tribes met and decided that the country required the rulership of a king (1). In the first century a large group of people who had met with Jesus decided to force him to be king (2).
Who are these people, with boundless egos, who decide to make a king? Not satisfied with the lust to rule as a king, they are inflamed with burning ambition to make and own a king. Imagine the twisted ego, self importance and lust required to even think of become a ruler of rulers!
The king makers are the subject of legend and superstition; they mainly live nameless, in the shadows, content to fulfill the role of the puppet master. It is not important to know the identity of the king makers, only to know that they exist and are the true constituents of the public rulers. The individual entities may not be known or seen, but the effects of their influence can be seen.
In this republic the electorate is blinded by two major deceptions. The first deception is that political power, "correctly" applied, can solve the national challenges, making life better for the electorate. The second deception is that the electorate functions as the primary "king maker" through national elections.
Political power, regardless how it is applied, has very little potential to do "good". It's full potential is realized when it is used for robbery, murder and destruction. It is with this knowledge that the founders understood that the government of this republic must be severely restricted and it's citizens armed to the teeth in perpetuity.
Don't become infected with the king maker mentality. Each election cycle comes and goes with its' winners and losers, yet the country continues its' inexorable decline. Too many hopes and dreams are left subject to the vagaries of the political drama that plays out on the public stage. Too much productive energy, emotion, time and money are burned on the altar of political power.
Those who aspire to the top public positions of rule should be pitied. They are in the same position as the little child who has been lured into the car of a stranger with candy. In his book "The Prince", Machiavelli writes about those who attain rule from the king makers:
"Such as these depend absolutely on the good will and fortune of those who have raised them, both of which are extremely inconstant and unstable. They neither know how to, nor are in a position to maintain their rank, for unless he be a man of great genius it is not likely that one who has always lived in a private position should know how to command, and they are unable to command because they possess no forces which will be friendly and faithful to them."
So, it is advisable to resist expending emotional energy about the political puppets who are in the public spotlight. They are but a distraction engineered by the political illusionists. Your life, family, safety, and prosperity continue to remain in your hands. Continue to watchfully build, maintain and enjoy your life.
A wise man once wrote (3):
"…if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures…then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to you; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who reject the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways."
